Compound adjectives are two or more adjectives that are sometimes held together by a hyphen. Putting adjectives together in such a manner makes the adjectives work together to give greater detail to the noun that you are describing. Common compound adjectives are those used to describe the quantity of what you are describing. For example, you can say 'I went on a ten-mile hike'. The compound adjective in that sentence is 'ten-mile' which tells you how long the hike was and the unit that it was measured in.
